To show OUR support for this respectable effort, LOOKBOOK.nu will donate $1 (USD) to the Japan relief efforts for each "hype" that the looks below accumulate by the end of this weekend (Sunday, May 8, 2011 @ 11:59 PM Pacific time).

Congratulations to Levina L. and Addy M., the final winners of our Style Skins contest with MTV and Diesel! Levina and Addy's fresh takes on the styles of Michelle and Tony's characters won each of them a trip to NYC to style actors Rachel Thevenard (Michelle) and James Newman (Tony) for the MTV SKINS premiere party. They'll also be raiding the Diesel clothing store on 5th Avenue for a brand new $1000 wardrobe!
Michelle's New Look
Got a lust for life
by Levina L.
"Rachel Thevenard: 'Michelle's style is sexy, fliratious, girly, and she wears a lot of layers.'
Leather, lace, and ruffles."
Tony's New Look
A Douche but Dapper
by Addy M.
"Groomed but disheveled. Street smart but still classical American. Kind of like a well-groomed douchebag."
Big thanks to everyone who submitted a look, and to MTV and Diesel for the generous prizes. Don't forget to catch the premiere of MTV SKINS this Monday, Jan. 17 at 10/9c!

We'd like to take a minute to wish all of our members an amazing winter holiday and a happy new year! It's been a good year for us at LB and we are so proud to announce that your daily looks now reach a total worldwide viewership of 4 million monthly unique visitors, which is double the 2 million uniques we were at one year ago in December 2009!
Thank you so much for sharing your creativity and making LOOKBOOK.nu the #1 online street style community in the world. We look forward to making LB even better in 2011 so that our talented members will have ever greater opportunities to influence and be discovered by our always growing audience.

Over the weekend we added a zoom function to the "thumbs" view on LB's Hot & New pages, and basically anywhere you see thumbnails. When you move your mouse over a thumbnail, it will automatically zoom in to show a slightly larger photo. You can also hype the look, or go to the author's profile directly!
Some of you complained that the thumbs were too small to see clearly and we heard you. Hopefully this makes things a little better!

We are testing out a new Notifications feature on LB which lots of you have requested for quite some time!
When logged in, you can now find a "Notifications" tab in the upper-right menu that will let you know about new fans, comments, and hypes you have received. The goal is to keep you informed of what has been happening to your looks and your LB profile since the last time you logged in.
This is a very early release, so leave your feedback and let us know your initial thoughts and suggestions!

Based on everyone's feedback we have just rolled out some new changes to our homepage feed.
1. Larger images
We upped the image previews from 200 pixels wide to 240 pixels wide. We feel that this size strikes the right balance between being able to see more detail in the photos, and being able to see more than just one story at a time.
2. View filters
We added FILTERS for everyone so that you can choose to see exactly what they want to in their feed, and none of what you don't.
3. Privacy Settings
For those of you that are more shy and don't want your hypes, comments and/or who you fan showing up in your fans' homepage feeds, you can edit this in your settings now.
4. Home button added to main menu
We added a little home button tab to our main navigational menu on the left of "HOT" when you are logged in. This will make it easier to go to your home page when you want to see what's new.
Hopefully this makes the homepage much more usable for everyone. Let us know what you think!

UPDATE 9/25 @ 8:01 PM: Oops! We were busily fixing some of the bugs that popped up with this release and ended up *accidentally* clearing everyone's homepage feed...sorry! If your feed looks rather empty, it's not a bug, it's because everyone's feed got reset just a few moments ago, so you'll need to wait a bit longer for new activity to start showing up. Thanks for everyone's honest feedback by the way. We are listening to all your suggestions!
We have just released a brand new version of the LB homepage! It is still a work in progress but we would love to hear what you guys think. Find it by clicking the "home" link in the upper right hand menu when you are logged in.
The old homepage only showed looks by people you "fanned." For most people, unless you fanned a ton of people, it didn't update or change very often. Also if you subscribe to the email digest, the old homepage showed you nothing new.
The new homepage now shows you a lot more. You'll be able to see not just the looks your favorite people have posted, but also:
1. what looks they have hyped,
2. what looks and profiles they have commented on,
3. who they have "fanned," and
4. updates to their profile.
We understand that you guys may have mixed reactions, so I wanted to talk about why we think this change is a huge step forward for the LB community.
"LOOKBOOK.nu is becoming Facebook!!! What gives?"
We admit it--when designing LB's version of the "news feed" we definitely borrowed elements from our more famous older cousin in the social networking world. But our goal is not to create another Facebook. LOOKBOOK.nu has never tried to be a "Facebook of fashion"—we've always been about one thing--showcasing amazing content from around the world and allowing people to discover it.
One of the things we've heard most often from our members is "I wish there were ways beyond the HOT page and the NEW page to discover great looks."
This is one of our answers.
Here's how we think about it: when you "fan" someone, it means that you hold their style AND their taste in high esteem. They are people you already admire and respect. What better people to recommend looks and people to check out?
Now, when a user hypes a look, all that users' fans will then see it in their feed too, which can sort of cause a chain reaction. Perhaps, it could even drive significant traffic to the users' that are awesome but are being overlooked. Now, a user with a following on LB can really become an influential "tastemaker," i.e. someone who not only gets attention for their own looks, but also helps the looks and people he/she likes get more exposure as well.
"What if I don't WANT my fans to see who I am hyping, commenting, and fanning?"
We have always believed that looks and people who can inspire others deserve more exposure. This why we think that making your hypes, comments, and fanning activity more like "recommendations" to your fans will not only increase the influence you have on the site, but will ultimately help the entire community discover awesome new looks and people they woudln't have seen otherwise.
That said, privacy settings (that will be much much simpler than Facebook's) are definitely on the way. So please don't worry!
In the meantime, if you guys have any sort of feedback or thoughts (please try to be constructive) we are more than happy to listen!
Thanks so much for reading all this and for your continued support!
